Meet Mandarin Teacher of SLS

Anne Ma

Qualifications:
Anne Ma has Master of Teaching degree from Griffith University, and has accredited teaching registration for teaching mainstream classes in Australian educational system. She also has Bachelor of Art degree in Business English from Fudan University, one the leading universities in mainland China. In addition, she will soon be completing another graduate teaching degree at University of New South Wales specialising in Chinese language and ESL teaching.

Work Experience : 
Anne Ma has had five-year working experience with Würth, which is a German multi-national trading group that has more than 380 subsidiaries all over the world with annual sales turnover of 80 billion Euros. She worked there as a category manager, in charge of purchasing, SAP training to product management team and also PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) product know-how  training to sales managers within the group. Thanks to her work, Anne travelled around, both in Asian region and Europe; therefore she gained rich experience of cooperating with people from various cultural backgrounds. She is specialised in business process and culture in China and the Asia as a whole. Moreover, Anne had teaching experience not only in Australia public school (Labrador State School), private school (The Southport School) and other learning institution (Kumon Study Centre) as well. She is passionate about her culture & language, and would like to share her knowledge and experience with all of you.

Cigi Zhong

Qualifications: 

Cigi is a native speaker of Mandarin and she got her Bachelor of Education from Harbin Normal University in China . She also has Master Degree of Education from the University of Sydney. She is currently working as Mandarin Teacher for Sydney Language Solutions. She is not only a good language learner (she can speak Chinese, English, Korean, Japanese very well) but also a good language teacher. Her ability to learn and speak many language helps her to teach u the best way to learn a language.

Work Experience :

Cigi has more than five years of teaching experience. She has worked in a language school as a Mandarin teacher since 2005 in China. She can teach all levels of Mandarin courses and some of her students got very high score in the HSK (Chinese language qualifying test). She has experience of tutoring different levels of students from primary school students to university students. Her special teaching method is useful not only for encouraging students' interests but also for improving their abilities of learning. She is always energetic and enthusiastic. You will love learning Chinese with Ciqi.


Jing Hao

Qualifications: 

Current PhD candidate in Department of Linguistics, The University of Sydney. 

Graduated with Merit on the Degree of Master of Letters (Research Master on Linguistics) in The University of Sydney. 

Work Experience :

Jing Hao has many years of teaching experience of Mandarin to both children and adults in many private institutions in Sydney.

her research interests include educational linguistics, particularly the curriculum and course design, English for academic purpose and Language typology - the Chinese and English language comparison, especially grammar and pronunciation.

  • This workshop is intended for travellers or visitors who will visit China in the next 3 months, who want to have a very basic Mandarin language and understanding about the country.
  • It is designed for those who do not have time to come to class for 10 consecutive weeks or who just want to have a brief knowledge about the language and culture.
  • The workshop is 4 hour, which is on Sunday every month. In the workshop, you will be taught some basic survival Mandarin expressions, some cultural dos and donts, some basic tips to bargain, survive and handle the traffic.
  • You may also watch a short version of Chinese movie. You can prepare questions and we will try our best to inform you
  • You are recommended to buy a Lonely Planet Guide in Chinese and bring with you on the day.

Who should join the course?

This 10-week course is a specially designed program for those who have Mandarin background. It is for those who can understand spoken Mandarin quite a lot, but can only speak a little bit Mandarin or read few Chinese characters.

What will be offered in the course?

This course will help you to build up the Mandarin language skills particularly in speaking, reading and writing. It is a short and intensive course that offers you not only the systematic grammar rules which can help you in sentence-making, but also the efficient ways to memorise and understand Chinese characters. In addition, basic writing skills such as shopping list writing, note writing and diary writing will also be taught during the course.

This course will cover authentic daily life topics such as time, directions, family, food, shopping, traffic, and hobbies etc.

Expected learning outcome:

Know all the basic strokes that can compose all the Chinese characters

  • Understand Mandarin writing as a semantic writing system

  • Able to speak, read and write common Chinese characters

  • Understand common Chinese character combinations/phrases

Mandarin for Home Speakers (Level 2)

Who should join the course?

This 10-week course is a specially designed program for those who have Mandarin background. It is for those who can speak Mandarin well but cannot read and write Mandarin.

What will be offered in the course?

This course will help you to build up the Mandarin language skills particularly in reading and writing. It will cover daily topic such as time, money, nature, favourite colour, feelings, entertainment, animals, post office, accommodation, seeing a doctor, clothes, travelling.

Effective ways will be taught to efficiently memorise and understand Chinese characters. Written Mandarin grammar rules will be introduced to prepare you for Mandarin writing tasks. Basic writing skills such as shopping list writing, note writing, diary writing and letter writing will also be taught during the course.

Mandarin for the HSC

The HSC course provides complete preparation for the HSC in Mandarin and covers the skills and knowledge required in the Stage 6 syllabus for the HSC examination.

  • We use all assessment tasks supported by the board of studies and past HSC exam papers including listening CDs in our lessons to intensively support students to prepare for HSC exams.

  • We are also in regular contact with high school teachers, which allows us to keep up to date with any changes in curricula and have a source of valuable and current teaching materials.
